A collection of quirky characters in dire situations trying to handle a maple syrup heist to save their financial woes
When maple syrup producer Ruth Landry’s livelihood is attacked by greedy competitors who were once her friends, she hatches a plan to get revenge and shake up the industry. Loosely based on the theft of $18 million worth of maple syrup from a Quebec warehouse in 2011-2012; five people were sentenced to prison terms. Ruth, whose husband is in a coma, has lost the right to sell maple syrup to the cartel led by Leonard.
He is the sole keeper of the entire supply of maple syrup
It seems that her husband has the right to harvest the syrup, so she was fined for using the rights illegally. Remy, a bit of a sad hero, is a guard at the warehouse where all the syrup is kept, and he smuggled a barrel or two out of the warehouse at night with a friend who is suddenly killed. With Ruth struggling financially, the only way out was to steal on a much larger scale, and she and Remy enlisted Mike in this plan.
The truth is completely different
Mike is considered a powerhouse capable of great things. And with the personality clashes and missteps, it almost becomes a Keystone Police Scandal. Whenever they seem to have everything under control, something goes wrong, and their approach to solving it is a big part of the humor.
So it’s a fun fictional story
The twist is that it leads into a second season, so there are plenty of loose ends. And as we clearly stated, that’s not really how the theft happened. And a very interesting cameo appearance…
